Guess What!? – Brisbane Baby Photography

Firstly, I still haven’t had a chance to post a few of my FAVOURITE images from my time in Brisbane from March!! But scroll down for some EXCITING NEWS!!

As some of my clients know, I made a rather quick dash (well actually it turned out to be quite an amusing story the “dash”) to Brisbane EARLY on Wedesnday morning.

My beautiful best friend (who I commonly refer to as my sister!) went into labour!  So within 15 minutes, a ticket was booked online (oh the marvels of modern day technology!!) I packed for myself, my two children and my portable office and was in the car on the way to Melbourne airport.

So the assumption was that I would be in Brisbane by 10am, at the hospital by 10:30-11 and hopefully baby hadn’t been born yet so I could do my job as support person!  WELL.  Melbourne had fog.  We were delayed by 30 minutes for takeoff.  Then as we finally started our descent into Brisbane airport, the weather turned against us and we were placed into a holding pattern.  The Captain told us that it looked like we were being diverted to TAMWORTH.  Yes, we were over Queensland airspace, and heading BACK to NSW, to refuel and wait out the rain which caused very limited visibility.

Panicking that Daddy-to-be was sitting outside the airport waiting for my now to be VERY late plane, I asked the lovely flight attendant if there was any way to get a message to the ground.  What is baby was born while waiting for me and daddy missed it!?

I’m lucky that the Captain & First Officer agreed this was a total emergancy, and while organising their chaos of co-ordinates, they telephoned the ground personally to let daddy know that it would be best to head back to the hospital!  Go Qantas!!!  So finally at 1:20pm we land in a very wet Brisbane Airport and I was at the hospital by 230.

Baby was not in a rush to be born.  In face s/he was quite happy staying put.

At 830pm, the beautiful 3.82kg (8 lb 6 oz) baby boy, Finn was born!

And without further ado… the beautiful Finn!

And finally, one of myself & baby Finn (taken by the very proud Uncle Blake!!)

So on a administration note, I’m still in Brisbane until Tuesday evening, however can still be contacted on info@iriscreationsphotography.com or by mobile, however due to being in and out of hospital, please leave a detailed voicemail message, and I will return your call as SOON as possible!

Happy Weekend everyone!

Technical Issues & furry friends

Just a quick post, to say we were experiencing some technical issues with the computer system.

THANKFULLY, we have a very reliable back up system, so there is not stress of loss of images!  So no-one panic!!

However some emails from Thursday – Saturday are missing in the void, so if you have emailed me via the website, or directly on those days, PLEASE email me again, or call on 0423 323 185.

We are working on digging those emails out, however not sure how that will go!

Obviously there are some delays in production as we come back online!!

And because I cannot end a post without some images…

I’m going to show off my new baby!  As many of my blog readers will know last month we lost our youngest kitty.  We were hoping to get a friend for our eldest cat Sebbie, but also wanted to adopt a kitten so the boys could grow up with it, and it wouldn’t get too skittish with their likely roughness!  My youngest is just so in love with her, spends hours chasing her around!

So meet little Ophelia!  I have an absolute love for Shakespeare and also John William Waterhouse paintings, of which Ophelia appears a lot!  My cats have always been named after Shakespearean characters, or myths and being that she is soooooooo pretty, Ophelia just fitted beautifully!

There will be more images coming ;)

MIA, website/Email drama & my boys

People always insist I must have the most beautiful images of my boys.  Well yes, when they let me actually take their photos!!  I have to admit, my youngest has been a brilliant model.  But now we are on the move, we generally have to rely on a basket of some description to keep him in the one spot!  Me eldest on the other hand has ALWAYS hated the camera.  ALWAYS.

So of course, when they actually let me take their photo, TOGETHER it’s always a quick dash for the best light, the camera (always with a dying battery) and before the “mood” changes.

And of course, they are always in their worst possible outfits, with lunch or a snack all over their faces, and at 5pm in winter, when there is NO LIGHT.

But who’s complaining when you get these:

boys-2boys-1

On a different note, I have been what may seem a little missing in action lately.  I have been unwell for what seems like a month, with what was originally diagnosed as the flu, but has turned out to be a lymph node infection.  All is well and I’m on the mend, and not contagious!  Been difficult with two unwell boys with a cold each (which has also seemed to take weeks to finally disappear!)

One another fun note, it seems there has been some issues with my website/blog and email.  Seems the site is working at the moment, however at the moment, I am unable to receive my emails.  They will be downloaded once the issue with the server is fixed, however there may be a slight delay with my replies.  Apologies in advance!

SPECIAL! Mother’s Day Mini-Sessions (ACOCP Fundraiser)

acocp-iris-creations-photography

As many of my clients & blog readers know I’m a proud member of the ACOCP.  We are currently holding a fundraiser to raise much needed funds to keep the organization providing this wonderful service to families around Australia.
For those who are not familiar with the ACOCP:

(from website)The Australian Community Of Child Photographers (formerly The Australian Charity of Child Photographers) is a volunteer organisation of child photographers from all over Australia who have come together to form an organisation dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families that have experienced stillbirths, premature and ill infants and children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of their local hospitals, as well as children with serious and terminal illnesses.”

What’s involved:
The sessions are available as gift vouchers to celebrate Mothers Day.  Vouchers may be purchased as gifts or for your own family.
Mini Sessions will last 15-20 minutes, and include approx 10-20 images in an online gallery.  Your sessions also includes a Free 6×8” print, chosen by photographer, and 5% off standard pricelist.
There are two types of sessions available:

  • Studio session & on-location at a park in Carlton.  All sessions will be held on the 16th May, 2009, with a waiting list for the next available day (likely to be late May, early June)
  • There are approx 10-15 gift vouchers available, and these will be booked quickly so please secure your booking asap!
  • Vouchers are not available for newborn or maternity sessions, due to the nature of the time allocated for sessions.
  • Sessions are a fantastic way to have family photographs, or individual photographs of the children.  No more than 4 people can be included in the session, however if you have a larger family you may purchase two timeslots, and have more images presented in your gallery.
  • Mini sessions are fantastic as an addition to a standard session. For example – for family photographs, to photograph an older sibling after a newborn session, or for children who are not lovers of the camera!  (For example my eldest son!)  15 minutes isn’t a long time to grab their attention, and have beautiful professional photographs of them as they grow!
  • Mini-sessions are great fun and quick!

How it works:

  • Pay $50 directly to the ACOCP via paypal (credit card) and book in your time & preference for Point Cook Studio or outdoor location.  You will receive a FREE 6×8” print.  A 5% discount applies to the standard pricelist for orders from these sessions.  You MAY purchase two timeslots if you wish.
  • Gift Vouchers for the mother’s day special will be emailed to you to use or give out for mother’s day.  Sessions are non-refundable.  If weather is against us for the outdoor location, an alternative time will be made available.
  • Your images will be presented in an online gallery 1-2 weeks after your session.  Orders may be placed during a 1 week ordering period.

To book:

  • Please email Gemma via the “contact us” button on the blog, website, email directly, or phone 0423 323 185

Please contact us ASAP to book your session!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Merry Christmas!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my clients, their families and my dedicated blog readers all the very best for Christmas and the New Year!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

{I have to say, getting these images of my two “angels” was not an easy task.  Both have colds, the eldest who decides his name is Denise the Menace whenever he’s unwell, and Ashton, well lets just say I’m glad I have skills in Photoshop, his face was just disgusting.  But oh how it’s worth it!  Aren’t they just beautiful?  (Oh did I mention they are BOTH sleeping at the moment? a rare treat for mummy – Haha)}

And also, welcome to the new look blog.  Iris Creations is currently undergoing a makeover.  (Wonder if that means I’ll get one?)  Cannot wait to unveil the new look, however the blog here is a sneak preview of some changes to come!

Happy Holidays!
