Newborns, Newborns Everywhere! – Melbourne Baby Photographer

Ready for a big post!?

A few weeks ago (yes yes yes I’m behind on blogging… but I am catching up!) I had the pleasure of attending a seminar by Kelley Ryden, a US based photographer who is a fantastic baby photographer.  It was an amazing workshop to be a part of and attended by photographers around the country!  Two of whom have recently had babies themselves and willingly let us photograph their babies as well!

Thanks Kelley for a wonderful weekend!  And now onto the images that I took (well some of the THOUSANDS!!)

Miss P, 5 months – Melbourne Baby Photography

You may remember Miss P’s newborn session HERE.  Here she is again at 5 months!  I think we may have been a wee bit tired when I arrived, because after a while she made sure the camera went away and went off to sleep with no fuss!

I hope you enjoy the preview Mum & Dad!

Couldn’t help myself! – Melbourne Baby Photography

I simply had to post a few more from Miss J’s session.  I have totally fallen in love with these two for a few reasons.  A, She sat (kind of) happily in my pram (which I’ve had for a number of years, however it hasn’t had MUCH use in photography until lately!) and also because of the expression on her face.  Now 99.5% of the time we try to get our children to “SMILE!” for the camera.  Saying this to them, is not going to make them smile, normally it just makes them more nervous!  As I say to all my clients, I’m not here to take a gallery full of images where the baby is “smiling” for the camera.  Sure, smiles are REALLY important and who doesn’t love a baby with their mouth smiling gummy goodness, but it’s images like these below that really make me tick:)

Showing a baby’s true personality, expressions they use day to day whilst discovering the world and in the process making artworks for your wall.

Mr J, 10 weeks (days!) – Newborn Baby Photography

This gorgeous little boy was just a DREAM to photograph!  TECHNICALLY he was 10 1/2 weeks old, however I photographed him 10 days after his due date.. little man was in a hurry to enter the world, being born at 29 weeks gestation..

He was amazing, would occasionally open his eyes before heading back off to sleep!

I hope you enjoy the preview Mum & Dad!

A day in the park – Melbourne Child Photographer

I’m slowly catching up!!  I have heaps and heaps and heaps of gorgeous images of gorgeous babies to post, however I’m being a bit “control freakish” at the moment, so everything is happening in order.  (even the house is getting an overhaul… by the end of September, if it doesn’t have a “home” it GOES!)

I’m always getting in trouble that I’m not posting enough of my gorgeous boys, so here we go.  Firstly, is Eman, who many will know, isn’t the biggest fan of the camera.  If he’s in the mood, he’s covered in food, the day before the hairdresser appointment.  And in the most unflattering-for-camera outfit… have I mentioned this is called “photographer’s child syndrome”?

Anyway before I carry on too much more, some from Eman in the studio…

My boys in the park.  Seems strange posting this today, when the sun is shining and it’s slowly becoming more and more like warmer weather is on the way.  Well this day it was techincally the first day of Spring, only it was more like the middle of winter!  Also felt like playing around with some different processing for a real “wintery feel”!

Miss J, 10 Months – Baby Photography Melbourne

This little girl was beyond cute!  Loved to play “peek a boo” and with some teething action going on my baskets were a treat!

She wore herself out rather quickly with all the posing and modeling action, and before we knew it we’d captured some gorgeous images!

I hope you enjoy the preview Mum!

Mr J turns 2! – Child Photography Melbourne

I photographed Mr. J’s first birthday party, and here he is turning 2!  Not sure where the year went, but he is as cute as ever, and the birthday boy and party guests had a ball running, jumping and going down the many slides at this indoor playcentre!  I have to say I’m sure everyone slept well afterwards, I can safely say it was a good thing I wasn’t driving as I had a nap on the way home too!  Capturing two year olds at play is exhausting business!

Here’s a little collage of some of the moments of the day!

Miss R, 15 days – Baby Photography Melbourne

Yes, little itty bitty baby Ruby:)  This time, at 15 days old.  She is just such a doll I can’t help but share more of her!

It’s been a lot of fun taking photos of her every two weeks, and yes there are more to come:)

Had a wonderful, inspiring weekend attending a workshop with US photographer Kelley Ryden this weekend.  Talk about cuteness overload, we photographed the most adorable newborns, and even a challenge with 3 weeks older!  There will be lots of images coming soon from the weekend.  My dear friend Amanda Keeys (who took the beautiful image of me with my son Ashton above) came to stay for the weekend with her 10 week old daughter Zoe and husband Matt.  My regular blog readers may remember miss Zoe from my post here.  I tell you it’s hard to not want another baby after a weekend like that (no that does not mean any new additions coming soon!!)

Well, onto some images of Miss Ruby:)

A “birthday” party – Melbourne Child Photography

Eman (my adorable – camera – hating 3 year old) had a play date with the adorable Ashley.  (Miss Ruby’s big sister)  They were so quiet at one stage we popped outside to see their “cake”.  Apparently it’s my birthday!  It was a layered chocolate cake, complete with candles!  Since it was a birthday party, I mentioned how we’d need the camera.  Emerson actually agreed!  I pushed it by asking for kisses and a “formal” pose!!

And asked if Ashley & Emerson could please help me by blowing out the candles (they were very diplomatic and only put two candles on my cake!) xx

Playing catch up!!

Ev Lloyd Photography Exhibition

And for something slightly different on the Iris Creations blog; Landscape and Seascape Photography.  By my dear friend Ev Lloyd.  On Saturday I attended Ev’s first exhibition.  It was a huge success – and being in a room with his works beautifully presented on the wall was just amazing.

So, do yourself a huge favour and head on over to his website; And see the beautiful works for yourself.  Here’s a few images from the exhibition itself, (sorry my images here do NOT do it justice) and an introduction to his work.

Lightroom (IMG_1437.JPG and 6 others)

Firstly, I had to open with this one as it has the best title “Gemma’s Choice” (!)

Congrats Ev, very proud of you xx

Miss L, 8 days – Newborn Baby Photography

This little (tiny) peanut was a a little feisty at her session.  Ok I’m totally joking.  But I think she would have preferred to be dressed, wrapped and not posing for the camera.  But how gorgeous is she!  Weighing only 2.5kg she was one of my smallest subjects to date!  As most of my clients know, newborns will poop and pee on my blankets – this is just natural.  Well this peanut didn’t.  Only on her own!  hehe. (sorry mum)

Thanks for your patience with the preview!  I hope you enjoy Mum & Dad!

On another personal note…

… Well firstly I have to say, we are all running on empty here!  We had been hoping to expose something very new next week on the 1st September, however that is going to be unfortunately delayed:(

Secondly, to all my lovely clients reading the blog, I am a wee bit behind, and thank you for your patience with me!

Where to start?  Lets start by saying that here in Melbourne we are lucky to have the Childrens hospital.  To all my photographer friends reading this blog, you may have read a similar (although with different circumstances) post on Rachel Devine’s Blog.    On Sunday I was getting worried about Ashton’s raising temperature, which was not dropping from 39.8 – so I called the local doctor, however missed them by 10 minutes.  Thankfully they have the local service and sent around a doctor to our home.  She pulls out the usual checks and then informs us she was worried about his oxygen levels!  I was a bit taken back as I’d rung her about his temperature.  So we went to the Children’s hospital.  at 9pm the Ventolin started, and continued every 20 minutes until 3am, when we were admitted into the short stay unit.

There it was dark (instead of the blazing fluro lights of emergency) and I got a “bed”.  In the morning they informed me that Ash had a viral induced Asthma episode which may or not lead to continuous Asthma.  That next day involved trying to stretch out the Ventolin to every 4 hours, when they would let us go home.  Problem was, I wasn’t overly confident about going home!

The staff were fantastic, helpful, caring, understanding that I had no idea what I was doing and never once made me feel like I should understand the medical jargon that they had!  Thankfully we were sent home later that day. with a follow up scheduled in 6 weeks.

So at home we were, and introduce feeling like there is a newborn in the house again!  Every few hours we had to check in on our little monster and give him ventalin, which of course – he HATES!

Bring the end of the week and he is 100% on the weekend, and we are slowly recovering from the lack of sleep this week!

here’s a few iPhone photos I took in almost complete darkness!

Newborn Showcase – Baby Photography Melbourne

Get ready for a massive preview!  This gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous baby girl is the second daughter of a dear friend of mine.  My poor friend was hounded by me during her pregnancy – that no matter what I was photographing her baby when she was 6 days old.  Not sure she understood at the time why, but as I say to all my clients, the younger the better.  Well on the day, we saw why.  Baby R was sleepy.  So sleepy that she would barely wake even when we wanted her too!

She was an amazing model (even did poses all by herself!), and there are more to come of Ruby which are being kept specially for a secret, which I’ll be ready (hopefully) to share soon.  Miss R was my “model” for such a secret;)

I had another playdate with my friend & her beautiful daughters again recently, and of course, put Miss R to work again at modeling.  (sorry R, but you are just too beautiful)  I will be sharing those images as well ASAP!

Thanks for your patience Mum, I hope you love the images:)xxx

Mr. T – ACOCP Melbourne

Met this gorgeous family at the Royal Children’s Hospital today through the ACOCP.  Mr. T is 7 weeks old.  We were lucky enough to venture out of NICU and even out into the garden! Which I think was Mr. T’s second time outside!

It was a pleasure to spend the morning with you Mum & Dad, I hope you enjoy the images xx
